Daily Campus Safety Log

According to federal law, an institution may withhold any of the required fields of entry, i.e., the nature, date, time, location and/or disposition if any of the following conditions apply:

• The disclosure is prohibited by law
• If the disclosure would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim
• If disclosure would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual
• If disclosure would cause a suspect to flee or evade detection
• If disclosure would result in the destruction of evidence

Below are incidents that occurred within the last 60 days.

10/11/24 Campus Safety responded to the report of an argument between two students in the Bede Residence Hall.  Campus Safety Officer spoke with the individuals involved and the situation was resolved.   No other safety or security concerns to report. 

10/10/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

10/09/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

10/08/24 Conducted annual fire alarm testing at all buildings on the Mount Marty University Campus.  All alarms functioned properly. No other safety or security concerns to report. 

10/07/24 At 1:14 AM, received a report of a fire alarm failing to communicate from the Rickenbach Suites.  The suites were checked and the alarm restored prior to our arrival.  No other safety or security concerns to report.   

10/06/24 Extra partrol provided overnight in the Corbey Residence Hall due to issues with the fire alarm system.  No other safety or security concerns to report. 

10/05/24 Received a call from the building alarm monitoring center at 11:17 PM reporting an issue with the alarm phone line in Corbey Residence Hall.   System restored, no continued issues.   No other safety or security concerns to report.

10/02/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

10/01/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

9/30/24 On 9/30/24 at 10:20 AM, Campus Safety received a call regarding a suspicious male near Bede Hall.  Campus Safety made contact with the individual.  No suspicious activity found.  Provided the individual with directions to a nearby business.  No other safety or security concerns to report. 

9/29/24 At approximately 1:15 AM, the fire alarm system activated in Corbey Residence Hall. Fire Department and Facilities responded.  Building was evacuated.  No fire, alarm malfunction. No other safety or security concerns to report. 

9/28/24 At approximately 8:50 AM on 9/28/24, the fire alarm system activated in Corbey Residence Hall.  Building evacuated and Residence Life, Campus Safety, Facilities, and the Yankton Fire Department arrived on scene.   No fire, alarm malfuction was determined to be the cause.  No other safety or security concerns. 

9/27/24 The Yankton Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the Lot A.   No safety concerns.  

9/26/24 Received a call from the fire alarm monitoring system that reported an alarm in a room of the Rickenbach residence hall.  Responded and found that an occupant over cooked food.   Alarm reset.   Campus Safety Officer found that a student had left their car lights on in their vehicle.  Made contact with the student and was shown how to shut off their headlights.  No other security or safety concerns to report. 

9/25/24 Received a call from the fire alarm monitoring system that reported an alarm in a Corbey residence hall room.   Contacted the student and found that an approved appliance had caused the alarm.  Alarm reset and no further issues.  No other safety or security concerns to report.  

9/24/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

9/23/24 Received a call from the fire alarm monitoring system that reported an alarm activation and reset in a room at the Rickenbach Suites.  Campus Safety responded and found that steam from the shower set off the alarm.   No further action taken.  No other safety or security concerns to report. 

9/22/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

9/21/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

9/20/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

9/19/24 At approximately 12:16 PM, a visitor's vehicle was found in parking lot C with a prohibited item.  The owner was contacted and vehicle and item was removed.  A student's vehicle was found in lot A with lights still on.   Student was contacted.  No other safety or security concerns to report. 

9/18/24 At approximatley 9:30 PM Campus Safety recieved a call from a Resident Hall Director regarding a student who entered a Rickenbach Suites room without permission.   The incident was investigated by Residence Life staff and Campus Safety.   At approximately 2:00 AM, Campus Safety found a vehicle parked on the cemetary road.  Campus Safety got out with the vehicle and advised them of this being a private drive.   Vehicle left without incident.  

9/17/24 At approximately 9:30 PM, Campus Safety received a complaint of a verbal altercation with a student and a member of the cleaning company in the area of Whitby and Bede Hall.  Cleaning company was notified.   The main door to Corbey Residence Hall was malfunctioning.   Faclities came in and fixed the door.   Bede laundry room window found open.  Window closed and secured. 

9/16/24 Alarm notification received in Corbey Residence Hall. No fire, alarm cleared before Campus Safety arrival.   Bede Hall elevator is out of service. No other safety or security concerns to report. 

9/15/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

9/14/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

9/13/24 Students contacted Campus Safety and advised that the Bede Residence Hall elevator was not operating.  Campus Safety arrived and monitored the elevator.  No issues were noted.  Advised Facilities of the issue.  No other safety or security concerns to report.  

9/12/24 At approximately 7:19 PM, Campus Safety found an intoxicated male loitering by the Monastery.  Campus Safety escorted the male off of the Monastery property and contacted the Yankton Police Department for follow up.   The main door of Corbey hall was found to be malfunctioning.  Campus Safety and Facilities worked to get the door functioning again.   No other safety or security concerns to report. 

9/11/24 Safety Officer found that the west door to Corbey Hall was malfunctioning.  Extra patrol conducted overnight.  No other safety or security concerns to report. 

9/10/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

9/09/24 Received 2 calls related to our automated fire alarm system at the Rickenbach Suites.  Building was inspected, and they were found to be false alarms.   No other safety or security concerns to report. 

9/08/24 No safety or security concerns to report.

9/05/24 Report of a domestic disturbance in Lot A.  Police arrived and investigated the incident.   Students reported hearing noises from an adjoining residence hall room.   Campus Safety investigated the report and no one was found in the adjoining room. 

9/04/24 Campus Safety Officer found a stove burner on after hours in the main dining hall kitchen.  A student's vehicle lights were left on.  Student was notified.  No other safety or security concerns to report. 

9/03/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

9/02/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

9/01/24 No safety or security concerns to report. 

8/31/24 The entry doors on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floor of Whitby residence hall were found unlocked.   Doors were secured. No other safety or security concerns to report.  

8/30/24 Fire alarm was set off in the Rickenbach Suites.  Residence hall room was checked and found no concerns.  Overcooked food found to be the cause of the alarm. At approximately 3:00 AM, 3 individuals found on Monastery property and advised to leave.  Individuals left without incident.  No other safety or security concerns to report.

8/28/24 Non-injury accident involving two vehicles occurred in the Fieldhouse parking lot.  No other safety or security concerns to report.

8/23/24 At approximately 6:57 PM, a Campus Safety Officer discovered an individual sleeping outside the main entrance to the chapel. Due to a language barrier, local police were contacted to assist.  The individual left the area without incident. No other safety or security concerns to report. 

8/22/24 Campus Safety received a report that the Corbey elevator was not working.  Campus Safety reset the elevator.  A Campus Safety Officer discovered a vehicle that was running in the Cimpl Arena parking lot.  It was later determined that a student, who left campus, had left the vehicle running.   Vehicle was shut off and car secured.  No other safety or security concerns to report.

8/13/24 Received an alert of a fire alarm at the Rickenbach Suites.  Area checked by Campus Safety and no issues found.   False alarm.   No other safety or security concerns to report.

8/08/24 Campus Safety Officer found Whitby 1st floor access to dorm propped open.   Door secured. No other safety or security concerns to report.

8/06/24 Campus Safety Officer found Whitby 3rd floor door propped open. Door secured. 

8/05/24 Students found inside the Greatlife facility after 11 PM and were advised of open hours (4 AM to 11 PM M-S). No other safety or security concerns to report.

7/30/24 Parking violation observed and vehicle was promptly removed.  Individual located in the Greatlife gym after 11 PM.  Individual was advised of the Greatlife hours (4 AM to 11 PM) and left the facility.   

7/29/24 Strong winds blew through the campus during the late evening hours.  Students and staff were notified in advance.  No damage reported.

7/23/24 Fire alarm malfunction occurred in Cimpl Arena, Fieldhouse, Rickenbach and Bede dorms.   The malfuction occurred as a result of the campus wide phone updates.   Alarms were reset and are fuctioning correctly.

7/19/24-Heavy rain amounts caused the campus driveway entrances to temporarily flood.  Experienced issues with the fire alarms malfunctioning in Corbey Hall and Bede Hall.

9/24/2023- Fire Alarm, Corbey Hall. CSO conducted walkthrough of residence hall with no evidence of fire. On-call Facilities was contacted to reset alarm. Work order submitted.

9/23/2023- At 1:35 am, there was a one vehicle accident in the West Corbey lot. Driver hit an inground post that caused damage to the vehicle and post. Yankton Police were notified. Alcohol was a factor. An incident report was completed.

9/15/2023- Fire Alarm, Corbey Hall. CSO conducted walkthrough of residence hall and found a faulty smoke alarm head. Facilities work order submitted.

9/9/2023- Whitby Hall( 1105 W. 8th St.) Alchohol and Marijuana. Resident Hall Director was walking through Marian Hall, which is attached to Whitby Hall, when a strong odor of marijuana was detected. Tracked down the smell to a student residence where the odor was strongest. Contact was made with the resident and 2 other occupants. Room was searched with no finding of marijuana but 2 large bottles alcohol bottles were found. Alcohol was disposed according to policy. An incident report was completed.
