Why Mount Marty?

To say that Katie Adams is an involved student might be a bit of an understatement. The MMC senior took advantage of the college’s breadth of extracurricular activities soon after arriving on campus, and she now participates in theater, Education Club, Campus Ministries, Catholic Leadership and the Campus Activity Board, just to name a few. It’s through that involvement, she says, that she’s not only made great friends but also gotten to know the MMC faculty and staff.

“Through all that I do and having the friends I have, I have been able to put away all worries knowing I have such a wonderful community of people around me who care for me and for who I am,” she says. “This is something I will treasure for the rest of my life.”

Mount Marty’s Impact

Katie credits her MMC professors, even those outside of her academic major area, with opening her eyes to what’s going on in the world around her. Professor James Hovland, she says, has shown her the importance of making her own decisions to succeed or fail on her own.

“Through failure can only come success, and through that I can only become a better me and become better at what I love,” Katie says.

The MMC Values

Mount Marty’s faith-filled environment has made a huge impact on Katie during her time at MMC, both in her awareness of God and in the community she’s grown to be part of.

“No matter where you go, keep God close by,” she says. “You will always need him, even if you think you can do it on your own.”

Ultimately, she says MMC has taught her the importance of caring for those around her. “Be kind,” she says simply. “Be kind to everyone, especially those who are unkind to you.”
