Why Mount Marty?

When Alex Kneeland came to Mount Marty College to play for the Women’s Basketball program, she found that the team-like atmosphere extended far beyond the court. In fact, as the Lancers continued to improve and find greater success, the players found themselves drawing closer to the entire student body.

“Fellow students and professors reached out to wish us luck, cheer us on and even just sit down and chat about the upcoming games,” Alex says. “Being a part of something like the National Tournament really drew the campus together as a whole and served as a large bonding experience for us all.”

Mount Marty’s Impact

Even on a smaller campus, it takes a concerted effort for professors to offer the kind of one-on-one attention that students find at MMC. And for Alex, the college’s commitment to each individual student has greatly expanded her learning experience.

“There wasn’t a college class I was more scared of than Organic Chemistry,” Alex says. “But with the guidance that Dr. Wu was willing to extend, I was able to not only succeed in the class, but I also thoroughly enjoyed it."

The MMC Values

The core values that are instilled at MMC play a big role in preparing students for life outside of the classroom, and Alex says they have helped her to reach a wider and more general understanding of herself and the world around her.

“I feel as if I am able to take in so much more just by being aware of all the incredible things happening each day,” she says. “I developed into a more complete individual by not just focusing on one aspect of life but by learning and appreciating other values as well.”

Alex was named a NAIA DII 1st Team All-American in 2016 and a Daktronics Scholar-Athlete, in addition to numerous other awards for her athletic and academic performances.
