Mount Marty’s new Teaching & Learning Center

August 14, 2025

This August, Mount Marty began using its new Teaching & Learning Center, also known as TLC, on campus. The Teaching & Learning Center is housed in the Scholastica Learning Center building in room 103 and is used as a training center of resources to enhance and inspire Mount Marty's faculty in their educational practices to be the best they can be for their students and the Lancer community.

In the Teaching & Learning Center, and coordinating with other departments on campus, faculty can find mentorship, scholarly retreats, professional development workshops and pedagogical training to empower their lifelong learning in conjunction with the Mount Marty core values.

Bill Miller, Ph.D., executive vice president and provost, said, "The world of higher education in general, and teaching and learning in particular, is rapidly changing. Our new Teaching & Learning Center is intended to be a vibrant space that supports faculty development by providing a place for faculty to learn from one another through intentional conversations, workshops and training, exposure to new technologies, and much more. Our hope is that the center will further strengthen Mount Marty's deep commitment to teaching by building an even closer-knit community of teacher-scholars dedicated to fostering a culture of teaching excellence through continuous improvement."

The space has been equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including monitors, high-powered lift desks and livestreaming technology to promote comfort and interactive learning. This space can also be used as a high-tech classroom for faculty to utilize for their students as needed, and as a supplementary space for the audiovisual lab.

John Badley, Teaching & Learning Center coordinator, said, "I am beyond excited to be able to offer our community in Yankton, Sioux Falls and Watertown high-quality workshops led by and for faculty, and the addition of this exciting multi-use space to house the Teaching & Learning Center is the icing on the cake. I can't wait to see how this space and the center enhance our community and enhance our university's value for lifelong learning."
