Mount Marty Alumnus Appointed New Vice President of Lake Area Technical College
November 30, 2023
Cam Corey, Mount Marty University-Watertown alumnus and adjunct professor, began his new role as vice president of Lake Area Technical College (LATC) on November 1, 2023.
LATC and Mount Marty have been long-time partners and natural collaborators, with Mount Marty-Watertown operations residing on or adjacent to LATC from 1998-2013 and 2019 to today.
"Lake Area Tech has played a pivotal role in helping us provide a strong Benedictine education to the surrounding Watertown community," said Mount Marty-Watertown director Kimberly Bellum. "We are both proud and thrilled to see Cam, whose contributions have left an indelible mark on both our Mount Marty community and the state of South Dakota, join the ranks at Lake Area Tech."
Corey joins LATC after 25 years as a violent crime investigator specializing in sex crimes, homicide, and child maltreatment. During his career, he trained law enforcement officers and agents, managed field operations for the South Dakota Office of Attorney General within the Division of Criminal Investigation, and was appointed by Governor Dennis Daugaard to serve on Jolene's Task Force, which focused on researching the prevalence of child sexual abuse in South Dakota and making recommendations to the legislature. In 2017, Corey founded REACH, a multidisciplinary team within a child advocacy center.
Corey, also a former adjunct professor at LATC and the South Dakota Law Enforcement Training Academy, hopes his Benedictine education and expertise on relational leadership and human behavior will help grow LATC and continue on its path of being "one of the best two-year colleges in the nation."
"I think what Mount Marty and Lake Area have in common is a sense of belonging," said Corey. "When you have personal connections and are under the same roof, better things can happen for the people you serve."
