Monastic Art to be featured in Bede Art Gallery Exhibition
June 13, 2019
The Association of Benedictine Colleges and Universities (ABCU) is an organization committed to helping provide and instill Benedictine values in a Catholic, intellectual tradition for today’s world. College administrators and monastic community representatives who belong to the thirteen-member association will be on the campus of Mount Marty from June 10-12, 2019. To commemorate and honor ABCU, Mount Marty College’s Bede Art Gallery is pleased to host a fine arts exhibition this summer.
The fine arts exhibition includes calligraphy, quilting, oil paintings, weavings, silk screen, and pen and ink drawings. The art work, which was graciously loaned from the permanent collection of Sacred Heart Monastery in Yankton, South Dakota, includes works of S. Leonarda Longen, nationally recognized calligrapher, and other talented artists of the monastery. These artistic expressions are inspired by the Rule and spirit of St. Benedict, the father of Western Monasticism and founder of Monte Cassino Monastery in Italy. They manifest a love of Scripture, nature, and creativity uplifting to the spirit. All are welcome to enjoy these inspirational creations.
The art work will be on display from June 3 through July 26. The Bede Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
