Dr. Lindsey Barthel received her initial nursing education at Lake Area Technical Institute, earning her LPN degree in 2005. She progressed through the 1+1 Program at the University of South Dakota and received her Associate Degree in nursing in 2006. Her Bachelor of Science in nursing was achieved in 2008 from South Dakota State University followed by the Master of Science in nursing in 2011, and Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2015.

Dr. Barthel’s clinical experience has focused on long-term care, primary care, rural health care, forensic nursing, and nursing informatics. Dr. Barthel continues to practice as a family nurse practitioner and is interested in improving access to healthcare for rural populations, telehealth, and advocating for the professional aspects of advanced nursing practice.

Dr. Barthel began teaching at Mount Marty in the fall of 2016 as an adjunct for the Graduate Nursing Program. She began her full-time faculty experience with Mount Marty in January 2017, helping to develop the initial doctoral-core courses for the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) program. She has continued to work in curriculum development while also teaching many of the doctoral-core courses and advising DNAP students regarding their scholarly work. Dr. Barthel currently teaches ANE 622 Nursing Theory, ANE 628 Nursing Informatics, ANE 626 Health Systems: Organization, Quality, and Leadership, ANE 630 Health Policy, ANE 620 Practice Inquiry Methods, ANE 638 Practice Inquiry Methods Practicum, and ANE 640, 642, and 644, the Doctoral Project Practicum courses.
