Mount Marty University to present annual Vespers concert
December 1, 2025
Celebrate the holiday season with Mount Marty University's 43rd Vespers performance held on Saturday, Dec. 6, in the Bishop Marty Memorial Chapel. There will be two performances at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
This year's performance, titled “An English Cathedral Christmas,” will be led by Tyler Thress, Ph.D., assistant professor of music and director of choral activities. The concert will feature music from the British Isles and showcase performances from the Mount Marty Chamber Choir and Choral Union, Weed Brass, and Communiversity Concert Band.
"For many years, our Vespers program was presented as English-style lessons and carols," Thress said. "We're keeping the traditional Vespers form, but I wanted to expose our community to the excellent Christmas music that the Anglican tradition has produced."
Mount Marty University thanks the Yankton Benedictines of Sacred Heart Monastery for graciously sponsoring this event. Tickets to the performance are free — and required — and available here. South Dakota Public Broadcasting will televise the performance on Dec. 24 at 10 p.m. It will be available to view at sdpb.org.
