Mount Marty Announces 2022 Alumni Awards and Hall of Fame Inductees

Mount Marty University (MMU) proudly announces its 2022 Alumni Awards recipients and Hall of Fame inductees who were recognized at Lancer Days this past weekend.
"Each year, Lancer Days brings together alumni and the MMU community, and provides an opportunity for us to celebrate and recognize their contributions to the university and society as a whole," Shannon Viereck, associate vice president for engagement, said. "We are proud to welcome these individuals into the growing cohort of Mount Marty alumni making an impact on our world."
Alumni Awards
Each year, the Mount Marty Alumni Association grants four awards to MMU graduates who either exemplify the MMU mission in their life, exhibit notable service to their church or community, reflect honor upon the university through continued interest and support, or demonstrate leadership and commitment to continued education in their chosen profession.
The following alumni award recipients were presented on Oct. 30, 2022:
- Outstanding Young Alumna: Jessica (Jurgensen) Clark '12
- Distinguished Service to Church and Community: Claire (Sung) Reiss '66
- Distinguished Service to Mount Marty: Dave '76 & Marcene (Tomjack) '75 Dickes
- Distinguished Professional Achievement, Undergraduate Degree: Dr. Kevin Kennedy '76
- Distinguished Professional Achievement, Graduate Degree: Taylor Rehfeldt '16, '19
Fine Arts Hall of Fame
Inductees of the Gregorian Fine Arts Hall of Fame were chosen by the Gregorian Fine Arts Association (GFAA) based on their passion, dedication, and service to the arts at MMU and the surrounding community.
The following individuals were inducted into the Fine Arts Hall of Fame on Oct. 30, 2022:
- Sister Madonna Schmitt, OSB (H'45 C'59), Yankton, SD
- Jim and Marilyn Nyberg, Patrons of Arts, Yankton, SD
- Virgil Petrik, Theatre Faculty 1988-1995, Springfield, SD
- Judi (Schmidt) O’Connell (H'59 C'63), Yankton, SD
Athletics Hall of Fame
Inductees of the Athletics Hall of Fame are MMU alumni selected based on their honor and standards of conduct and contribution to sports and society.
The following individuals and team were inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 28, 2022:
- Tony Elizondo, Baseball 1988-1992
- Lauren Donlin, Soccer and Softball 2006-2010
- Kylie (Gross) Knippling, Basketball 2008-2012
- 1998-1999 Women's Basketball Team
