Schleis wins heptathlon national title, school records fall for the Lancers

The Lancers showed up and showed out on the first two days of the 2024 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Mason Schleis made history on day two for the Lancers by winning the heptathlon with 5,157 points, becoming the first national champion in the event in school history. Schleis' national title performance came down to the 1,000, the last event. He was sitting in fourth place going into the event but ran it in 2:40.08 to leap into first and win the title by three points. Schleis' score of 5,157 points surpassed his own school record by 138 points.

Other school records fell for the Lancers. The women's 4x400 relay ran 3:54.52 to break the school en route to a 12th place finish in the prelims on day one. The team featured Tianna Bumbaca-KuehlAlexis EvenJosey Wahlstrom, and Calli DavisEdwin Nyamutswa lowered his own school record in the 200 to 21.07 en route to establishing the fastest time in the prelims on day two. Nyamutswa will compete in the finals of the 200 on day three, March 2, at 3:25 p.m.
