Dr. Candice Climer began her teaching career at Roosevelt Elementary in Sioux City, IA as a Level II Behavioral Disorder Teacher. Dr. Climer was also the head volleyball coach at West High School during this time. From Sioux City, Dr. Climer taught at Hartington Public School for four years as a Multi-categorical Special Education Teacher for 7-12th grade students. Dr. Climer also became the head coach for Hartington Public for two years, taking the team to the District Final their second year.
Dr. Climer earned her B.A. degree at Mount Marty University in Secondary, Physical, and Special Education and Recreational Management. She earned her M.A. degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Behavioral Disorders at the University of South Dakota. After completing her Master's degree, she went on to complete her Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) from the University of South Dakota in the area of Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Climer’s dissertation focused on Behavioral interventions to improve the performance of collegiate volleyball players.
Dr. Climer joined the Mount Marty University staff in 2010 when she accepted the Head Volleyball coaching position. She coached for five years while teaching part-time in the teacher education department. In the spring of 2015, Dr. Climer decided to step down from coaching to become a full-time faculty member in the Teacher Education Department. Dr. Climer heads the Physical Education department, teaches special education, and various other classes.
